How Do You Want to Grow Old?

Learn How Yoga Can Help You Plan for Your Future Health Span

'Join' The $101 Million XPrize Competition

Or, Why Your Don't Have to Wait 7 Years to Extend Your Health Span!

What if we could learn how to increase our health span, i.e. not just how long we live, but the number of years we stay healthy and free of chronic diseases?

This is the challenge recently laid down by the XPRIZE Foundation, which recently announced its 7-year XPRIZE Health Span competition for therapies that can slow or even turn back the aging clock.

The prize? A whopping $101 million to the team that develops therapies that restore muscle, cognition, and/or immune function by a minimum of 10 years in persons aged 65-80 years. See video to the right for details!

"It does not make any sense to have a long lifespan without being healthy," says Chip Wilson, a Co-Title Sponsor of the XPRIZE Health Span.

Name sounds familiar?

Yes, you guessed it - Chip Wilson is the controversial Canadian entrepreneur also know as the founder of yoga clothing company Lululemon.

But hey, Chip, how you heard of this thing called yoga?

Actually, for more than 30 years now, some 3,500 studies published in leading scientific journals have documented the health benefits and age-reversing effects of this simple, ancient practice.

Want a "therapeutic that restores muscle, cognition, and immune function"?

Why not take a look at the extensive yoga research literature. And while you're at it, look through the 115 medical conditions yoga has been shown to improve or prevent.

Why You Don't Need to Wait 7 Years to Extend Your Health Span

Don't get us wrong. We certainly applaud any undertaking that aims to help us get the best out of our lives - and particularly anything that can extend our health span.

But quite frankly, why start completely from scratch, when Dr. Dean Ornish now for almost four decades has demonstrated the power of yoga and lifestyle medicine to extend our health span? And other researchers have shown the power of meditation to do the same?

Why not use that generous amount of knowledge to solidify research into techniques that are documented to improve numerous improve markers of our health span?

But well, the good news is that YOU dont' have to wait 7 years to improve your health span. There are already plenty of great research out there on exactly how to do that.

This is why we created our Online Yoga as Lifestyle Medicine Study Group. It is a forum that teaches you all the latest advances in learning just how yoga and similar techniques can help improve our well-being - right here and right now - and also help extend the length of our health span.

And right now, you have a chance to join us for our upcoming 2024 season! Become a member of our Sangha of fellow, like-minded yogis as we together explore the many wonderful opportunities for transformation and enrichment that meet us as we move towards midlife and beyond.

Become the Hero Of Your Own Story

As we reach midlife, we are launched into the same universal challenge: Facing the slow, inexorable age-related changes of the body.

How we write that story makes all the difference.

Do we use them as a vehicle for transformation, or, do we meet them with a growing sense of loss and defeat?

How can we work with the body to maximize the benefits of yoga to slow or halt common age-related changes?

How can we use midlife and beyond to chart our own, personal transformation to enrich our lives physically, mentally and spiritually?

Join us to learn how cutting-edge research and ancient yogic wisdom provide the answers to these questions and many more!

In this practice series, renowned yoga teacher Doug Keller explains these ideas in yoga terms and shows you how to apply them. Beyond Posture: Finding Your Inner Yoga with
Rodney Yee and Colleen Saidman Yee

In this unique series of talks, two of yoga’s most experienced and versatile teachers, Rodney Yee and Colleen Saidman Yee share their insights into how to immerse yourself in the deeper aspects of practice, and find your inner yoga. Learning to tune in to your inner compass will guide you in your practice and often opens new, unexpected dimensions of experience.

“The compass inside is not just the tactile sensation of your muscles and skin against the bone and the movement of your vital organs. The navigation inside is also the way the breath flows through the channel of the body and even more subtle, how the Prana vibrates through those channels.

Assessment Tools for Yoga Teachers and Practitioners with Julie Gudmestad

The most foundational yoga pose of all is Tadasana or Mountain Pose. Tadasana demands just one simple thing: that we stand with good posture in a way that supports the natural curves of a healthy spine.

In our Western sedentary society, however, it’s surprisingly difficult for most yoga students to achieve correct alignment in Tadasana. Modern life conspires against good posture; we spend our days sitting at desks, staring at computer screens. The result is an epidemic of back and neck problems linked to poor posture and bad alignment habits.
